Detention Center/Jail

The Cass County Jail is currently a 60-bed facility and is running above maximum capacity. The Jail houses inmates, both male and female, for up to one year. Housing has also contracted out to Crow Wing county, providing 60 beds. Programming is provided for all inmates. Qualifying inmates have an opportunity to work out of the Jail or within the Jail, or to serve on the Sentence to Service work crew. In addition to supervising inmates within the Cass County Jail, the Jail also conducts prisoner transports and courtroom security.

Sentence to Serve Program

Any governmental or non-profit organization may use the Sentence to Service program. It is a program in which inmates volunteer to go out and do community projects and the only payment they receive is a reduction in sentence or reduction in their fines. Male Hours: Wednesday evenings, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Thursday afternoons, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Sunday afternoons, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Female Hours: Wednesday afternoons, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Thursday evenings, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Sunday afternoons, 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Visitors will have a minimum of 15 minutes of visiting time. If time permits, visits can be longer.

What is the "Huber Law"?
Courts and the Sheriff's Office authorizes people to work their regular employment while incarcerated in Jail. The cost is $140.00 per week, payable in advance. They may work a maximum of 50 hours of work. They may work a maximum of 6 days in a row.

What items can be dropped off at the Jail for an inmate?
Money can be left at the Jail Central Control for persons in custody. Items that cannot be left for inmates include books, notes, letters, newspapers, magazines, and any other personal property without permission of Jail Administration.
